Nitrous....help please
I researched about the wet and dry kit on the forum and found great information....but i still have some questions..i hope someone could help...ok my questions are...i want to run a dry kit on my 99 gt...mods listed below...now im not exactly sure what a safe shot of nitrous is for my car so i dont blow anything up...anyone have any ideas what a safe shot would be...i read that a 75 shot is safe but im not so short about that...My other question would be that i read that you have to retard the timing some when you run nitrous and you lose some power...does anyone know how much power is actually lost due to the timing change? any answers would be greatly appriciated thanks
I am actually installing a wet kit for my 98 gt as we speak. A general rule of thumb is dont go above 50% horsepower increase with a stock fuel pump and some other little things. So for our cars thats around 100 shot and you should be perfectly fine with a 75 shot. Also they suggest you retard your timing by 2 degrees every 50 horsepower most poeple do 1 degree per fifty and not until 100 shot or higher. Timing is not "needed" for a 75-100 shot but recommended.
The horsepower lose is -5 from what i have heard, nothing noticable with a 75-100 shot running.

When I used nitrous I got the NX plate kit its a wet kit. You need a wet kit. Do some research and you will find that our cars fuel system will work best with a wet kit. I used a 100 shot. A gauge is a most. If your live somewhere cold where it stays below 70 for a long period of time a bottle warmer is a must. Pressure is one of the most important things for nitrous to work safely. You have to be able to keep in eye on your pressure. With the plate kit you dont have to drill a hole into your intake, also they make a fuel rail adaptor so you dont have to tap into it. Actually I still have the plate kit sitting here at my house if you would like it. PM me we can make a great deal.
I had a 4.6L NX wet system plate kit. NX by far is the best system you can buy! I wouldn't go dry shot as your fuel injectors simply cannot pump out enough fuel for even a 75 shot safely. The wet system takes fuel from the fuel rail and mixes it with the nitrous so your fuel injectors still pump normal. A dry shot is simply old school and I would never reccomend it, but for show or highly experienced user. I had a stock tune and ran 100shot no problems. It activates at WOT. I ran 3 full bottle with zero issue's, but don't be fooled...N20 is very expensive when done the proper way. I had $1500 into my kit. You need a fuel saftey switch, rpm limitor if you have a 5spd (hitting the governor stops the fuel and you will have straight up N20 in there..not good), a bottle warmer is a must. Even on a summer day you need one if it's shaded and they take about 20-30min to warm the bottle up depending on how cold it is. I usually ran the N20 at night so it took all of 30 minutes. A pressure guage for both N20 pressure and Fuel pressure is a wise choice for your dash so you can see what's going on. You can do some damage in just one run of you aren't careful. I would stick with 100shot wet if you plan to stick to the stock tune and ONLY if you get the NX kit. NOS and ZEX kits are crap and they need a tune. Both those kits at 100 shot only net you 65-75hp to the rear wheels, where as the NX kit will net you right about 95-100rwhp for 100 shot. They are extremely consistent which is the key!!!! I had the IceMan solonoids. The Carbon fiber one's. They are the best. Also, you must run 93 octane and swap out your plugs for some NGK-TR6's and gap them at .035". Thses factors will aid in relieving any detonation problems when you flip that nitrous switch.
well i called lethalperformance and they were great help...they said that i would need to change my injectors so i got a set of 39lb injectors and he also said that its safer to go with a dry kit so thats probably what im going to do... he also said that i shouldnt have to retard the timing but if it makes it safer then thats waht ill have the tuner do...One more question would be...would it be easier to run 2 different tunes or just run the nitrous tune all the time...? im not sure about the spark plugs yet i forgot...and im not so sure that the zex kit is crap..ive heard only good things about them so i dont know which kit to get...ill have to decide soon my tune app. is next month and i want to have this done by then...
once again thanks for all the great imput
