I've never really payed too close of attention to it. Thats good news...
This is going to sound dumb but can anyone confirm that 99-04 V6 car has the same floor pan? I'm thinking I could buy cheap beater V6 for the floor pan and then get a wrecked 99+ Cobra for the motor and trans (t-45 t-56 or t-3650 no preference) and then use the GT straight axel for the rear end. Sound reasonable?

I urge you to step back from your Mustang fandom (which I fine, if I had the money I would probably own one too). My first running car that I actually drove was a 1993 Ford Probe. I bought the car for $500 and cleaned it up and before I knew it my Dad and I were neck deep in customizing the car. I come from a street rod background... my Dad started building a 39 Ford Convertible around the time I was born and I've spent most of my life working on old cars. Unfortunately being 19 restoring my 48 Ford is beyond what I can afford so having this Probe and doing all the work myself for under $2000 was the next best thing. I've fallen in love with these cars, I am currently the VP of the Wisconsin Probe Owners Club and in the last four years I have owned a total of 9 different Probes (5 that got parted out, 2 that got sold for profit, and 2 that I currently own) Take a look at my Cardomain page (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/693174) and read what I wrote at the top of the page. It's more than just a car and I want to finish it right with a "street rod" motor rather than putting the Mazda 2.5L V6 in it. Don't get me wrong, my daily driver is a great car with that motor, but I'm sick of taking **** for having Cobra centercaps in my Bullits and nothing to back it up.

I KNOW I KNOW, its not a STANG... thats not the point... That is why I take **** for having them because it isn't a Stang, but it is a street rod and street rods don't have 2.0L I4's. I don't think I'll have a Stang when I'm done. That is not the point.

I still think you are missing the point... obviously any Cobra owner will say its not a Cobra... but anyone will appreciate the work and the design that went into the car as a whole. It's a style not a replica. I'm building a muscle car / hot rod out of a tuner. It's kind of like putting a 2JZ Supra motor in a mustang and calling it a tuner car. Yes its not a Supra, but its still a tuner even though the body is a muscle car because it uses turner technology. I'm not really looking to debate this with you guys but I want you to understand my intent since it was brought up.

I completely understand what you are doing and it sounds like a cool project. I am simply saying that no matter what you do to a non-cobra car, you cannot back up Cobra badges. I understand the whole hot rod thing. I would just use different center caps and then do the 4.6 swap anyway.

Trust me, the center caps are the least of my concern and are not THE reason why I wanted to use the Cobra stuff. I've also researched the 302 which a lot of Miata owners have had a lot of success with and I know the small block Chevy as good as the next guy. A majority of street rods are small block Chevy powered regardless of the make but I want to stay with a Ford product and the Cobra is arguably the best drive-train that I can realistically afford.
