need instructions for 4.10 gear install
Could someone help me out with the instructions to install 4.10 gears on my 02 mustang. A walkthrough would be nice so i know exactly how to do it. Also do i need to buy the install kit? And if my car only has 17,000 miles on it do i need to buy the bearing kit. The 4.10 gears i have are the motive plus. Please help if possible. thanks

the motive install kit is pretty helpful, comes with everything you need except the wrenches (shims, redline fluid, gasket, etc.). this may help http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/gears.html
edit: I would go with professional though

I would have to suggest a proffesional. It doesnt cost much to have it done and if you mess up its very expensive. My gear instal was $400 most places will do it for 350 just not where I live.

with only 17000 miles you really shouldnt need an install kit. its fairly easy, you can tell how to do it just by opening up the rearend and looking. its straightforward as a cai or exhaust, just messier. but just in case, here ya go- http://www.drivetrain.com/ringpinioninstal.html
hope it helps.

Dude, it's easy. If you have half a brain, can read, and can turn a wrench, you'll be fine. I did my own gears and have had no problems what-so-ever with them. Here is the link to the instructions I used, they were great: http://www.superstallions.com/tech/d...ars/gears.html
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM or ask me here.
Just make sure you have the right tools and a machine shop near by that can pull off the old bearings and press on the new ones. I suggest getting the install kit, but with only 17k miles, you shouldn't need to replace your bearings. However, you will need a new pinion bearing, because the old one will likely get destroyed when they pull it off the old pinion.
EDIT: Just a heads-up, gear oil smells absolutely terrible, so be prepared for that. I wasn't expecting it and it practically made me gag.
