Default Trannys for multipurpose race car

Hey guys, Im hoping to get started on a new project here soon. The car is going to be a dedicated race car. but I intend to use it for drag, street and track, so all around is the goal. Right now im debating on 5.4 or 4.6 4v, but thats another question. What I want to know is what tranny i could/should run. Built c-4 and 4r70w's are pretty cheap for as much power as they can hold. if i did that I would probly want to run a trans go kit on it. OR I could run a stock t-56, or a tko 600-900. I prefer a manual trans, but im thinking the auto may be easier to setup and of course more consistant. I want to know if you think a slap shifted auto can be used for auto X or do I have to run a manual? Power is going to be in the 600-800's, the car will be gutted and caged, .. I might even tubb it, even though that will probly end its use for auto x, I dont intend to race it professionally- just for fun. anyway opinions needed.

thats going to take some engineering...combining launches, turns and drivability into one car. but concerning your tranny, there are people running autos in the twisties, but lose out on the ability to pick their gear in/out of turns. it depends on what you want to give up. t-56 has two overdrive gears so you still really have 4 gears to race with and two for drivability. so a close ratio tko would be just as good on the track. if you want to pick an auto then www.twistmachine.com sells a paddle shift system for the 4r70w so you can pick your gears. depends on your budget, what concerns you more, and your style.

that link to paddle shifting is interesting, It doesnt seem to have a package deal though.. or explain it well, maybe i need to look harder... but as far 4.56's go, I dont know about that with 76-88mm turbo, I dont like 6spds, but im open to them. I think i can select gears with the rachet shift kit, but a paddle setup would be interesting.
