The aluminum driveshaft is only 6lb lighter. It's about 14 vs. 20 for the factory one. The other noticeable difference is that it's actually balanced and it's quite a bit stronger. Rotating mass is much different than just weight difference. You'll recover some drivetrain loss, and you may beable to get rid of the dogbone below your differential (it's basically just dead weight to counter imbalance). Plus it wont look like a rusted mess when you put your car up on a lift. It may marginally increase gas milage, help your engine last longer, and give you a small percentage increase in horsepower to your wheels (which means it'll help more as you add more mods). You may want to look at underdrive pulleys as well as a lightweight aluminum flywheel to make your car even more efficient.

Does anybody know what the exact differences in between a driveshaft of a auto and a 5 speed is. And were I can find a alu driveshaft for a 2001 GT auto.https://mustangforums.com
