hey man i am currently going to uti and i just learned this last week, gears ar really simple... just remove the cover, and undo the main cap bolts that are located at each end of near the start of the axle... then the ring gear and main case should come out... just make sure to save your shims on each side and puth them back in... if you have any ? just pm

good luck and let me no how the 3.90 are... i am lookin into them?

Gears arent that hard to change out however you will need a press to install the pinion bearing. So I would recommend that you take somewhere because it could save you some headache. But if you do decide to DIY pull the cover off , then take your axles becareful not to drop them, to get them out there is a bolt on the carrier I beleave its a 8mm, then pull the pin out push the axles in andand the c-clips should just fall off the axle, thentake your main caps off keep a hand on the carrier so it dont fall out, pull the carrier out holding on each side try to bring the shims out with it so it will be easier to install. To get the pinion out take your driveshaft out take the nut off, then pull the yoke off. then the pinion out. You will need a new crush sleeve and if I were you i would put a new pinion bearing onit. Oh yea, take the pinion bearing off and get the shims off and put them on the new pinion. GOOD LUCK!!!

Uh, it's a bit more than that.

You have to disconnect the driveshaft on the yoke so you can get at the pinion nut. Also, you'll want to use new shims to get the correct pinion depth. Also, you have to make sure you tighten the pinion nut correctly. It isn't a torque spec for the tightness, it's a torque spec for how many inch pounds it takes to turn the pinion gear. It's a pain in the ***. Once you get that you'll have to set the correct backlash between the ring and pinion. It's rare that you'll use your old shims to get the correct backlash with different gears in there.

If you have half a brain, the right tools and can read, it is very simple. I did my own gears and have had no problems. Take a look at this link, and feel free to ask me any questions you may have. http://www.superstallions.com/tech/d...ars/gears.html
