Default New 4.6 owner need help

First off let me introduce myself, i just recently traded my Grand Prix GTP for a 1997 Laser Red Mustang GT that was a 1 owner car with 90,000 miles on it. The car is completly stock (which is the way i like to buy V8's) and im confused with a problem im having. After driving it for about 50miles or so the check engine light came on and the car had a noticible miss and stutter at acceleration. At rolling speed it wasnt noticible or as bad. Since my advance auto parts store claimed their scanner was broken i used my knowledge and assumed ignition due to the miss or what i thought to be a missfire. the back two plugs (cylinders 8,7) where heavily coated with white carbon deposits and smelled alot like unburnt fuel. Unpluged the battery for about 5min and fired the car up. the miss dissapeared and ran good untill about 20 or so miles then the light came back on. Now at idle the car surges from 600ish to 1000 rpms and has a slight delay to rev up when you give it gas. From what i have researched many people claim the IAB solenoid could be bad and would cause this. since i dont have a handy scanner anywhere near me (advance is the closest near me) what do you guys suggest? Also if it is the IAB where is it on these cars?

*sorry for the long post, i just wanted to be specific.*

thank you

What have you done to the car since you got it. Cause when i bought mine it was runnning on 7 cylinders. It did the ecxhact same thing as your car. The #7 cylinder wasnt firing. I did a tune up and the light is now off and it runs 100% better and passed emissions lol. The surge could be the IAC.

Congrats on the car. Welcome the MF.com. Make sure you get pics of it for us.

COP's are coil on plugs, it's the ignition style for PI GT's whereas NPI's have spark plug wires... Check your #7 and #8 injectors, plug wires, and for coolant leaks.
