SOHC convert to DOHC
i think "the07sniper" is saying that his friend with the GT wants the DOHC...why would he wanna make his cobra slower, he is saying he wants the GT souped up to compete with the cobra...i have thought about that same question tho, how much would it cost, and would it be hard to transfer?
you would need new headers, intake manifold, intake, TB, heads, cams, computer, cam gears, timing chain and i think thats about it... it looks like a good idea, i want to do that if it was possible. havent ever heard of that conversion yet though but i would love to do it if it didnt cost a ton. would rather supercharge if the conversion cost over 1k.

From every source I've seen, it's cheaper to drop in a cobra engine than it is to do the conversion which requires some degree of fabrication. I seriously recommend that people just look around for functioning engines from a mach or cobra.
I have thought about that idea too... the four valve heads flow so much better than the two valve heads. A four valve at .500" lift on the intake is the same cfm as a two valve intake valve at .821" lift.... I dont know of any cam that goes that high. So its worth getting the DOHC heads IMO. I have been read Sean Hylands book on 4.6 engines. And he says the short block is the exact same dimensions as a cobras. But the internals are different in a gt vs. cobra. So essentially you need like someone else said. Heads, intake, timing chain, cams, cam gears, headers, computer, throttle body, valve covers. I still think this conversion would be cheaper than a full assembled block.. It gives you the option of choosing the heads and cam. If you find out more info let us know, I would love to learn more.
If he is going with DOHC I would think just replace all intureals. I think it will be easyer just put on a supercharger and nos. I have beaten with my 2001 GT mustang a 2001 cobra wilh a supercharger 10psi he dyoed 428rwd.
