yellow low oil light
Ive got a 96 cobra with 69k miles on it. Every so often the yellow low oil light comes on. I have no external leaks, ive had someone follow me around as I floored it and drove around town and no signs of unusual smoke. This last time the light came on and was gone when I turned the car on again. When I pull the dip stick, I dont know if its just my eyes or what but I can never tell the level on the stick. Do you think this thing is eating oil, has a bad sensor, is too sensitive, is coming on for some unknown random reason, is it common to use enough oil over 2000k miles that an add is needed? Thanks for the replies!
The yellow LOW OIL light means just that, your car is low. If there's no external leaks then you're pushing out out of your exhaust and you can't see it. Use your finger to see where the oil on your dipstick is at.
my 96 gt low oil light will come on if i start hte when it is facing down hill for a little while. i noticed that if the is on when i start the car and move to a flat surface or face it up hill, turn off the car and turn it back on the light goes OFF. and yes my dipstick reads right when checked properly.
Make sure you're using the correct Oil. I tried 5W20 for one oilchange to see if there were any obvious differences between that, and the factory spec. 5W30.. Difference was I burned a good 3 litres by my next change.. I've never burned a drop of 5W30.
Change your oil, 5.68 Litres of 5W30 if it's a GT, and read your stick. Carefully note the level and drive it, check accordingly.
