for the horsepower gains, to clear/read trouble codes (check engine light), to correct your speedo after a gear change.

there are tons of reasons to purchase a tuner. i purchased mine prob for the main reason most other people bought theirs....for the 93 octane tune/horsepower gains.

Mainly for tuning purposes They allow the you or the guy at the shop to customize you a tune and overwrite your factory tune giving you more performance.

A tuner is used for a few main reasons.

1. To download the "canned" tunes already on the tuner.
2. To download a tune made from dynoing.
3. Turn off rear 02 sensors, so you can run an off-road midpipe.
4. Toread "check engine" light codes, and erase them.
5. ETC...

yup, as they all said, but if your car is only midly modded, a tuner isn't for you, let alone a tune, they have minimal gains on lightly modded cars.

let me clear that up, they have minimal gains on 96-04 4.6, i know somebody would come along claiming I'm wrong by how the 05+ reacts to tune and CAI

The 05+ reacts different to a tune and CAI because it's not a 2v and because of VCT, kinda a whole different world when trying to compare the 2 of them. Just about everything thing you do to a 3v requires the ECU to be flashed to react to the mod.
