Changing My Oil...

RE: Changing My Oil...
The owner's manuals show the sump capacity changing from 5 qts to 6 qts in the 2002 model year--you can download Ford owner's manuals here. I have never been able to 100% verify that this was the result of a redesigned oil pan, it may just be that they redesigned the spec...As for Haynes manuals--while theycan begenerally useful, they are also at times only barely better than having no manual at all. Get one of the Ford fleet service DVDs from eBay and use this utility (NirSoft's RunAsDate.exe) to trick it into thinking you are running it in the past (I tell mine it's December 15, 2003).

RE: Changing My Oil...
haha absolutely right from the first response. Everyone has different answers about how much oil you need.

Most here use Mobil 1 synthetic oil. And for some stupid reason, you are not going to get a straight answer as to how much you need. Just get 5 quarts to be safe.

I've noticed a lot of times they just say that the vehicle should be taken to a dealer! lmao
I have a Chilton's manual for my Explorer, and it seems to have a lot more info.

+1 M1 or RP. And although i have a 97' GT, they are both 4.6 L an so correct me if I'm wrong but both of our cars take 4.9 quarts, rounded up to 5
PS, I changed my oil last week and had a fckin hayday trying to get the oil filter off, it was on there so tight it took my friend and i hour lol. But Im also wondering if anyone can give me an answer as to why my dipstick shows no oil level when i check it. I put in 5 quarts last week after changing the oil and I havent noticed any oil leaking out or burning.

RE: Changing My Oil...
conventional will breakdown quicker, in my old mustangs I changed it every 2K, and for you that is fine and above what ford recommends for the car. the owners manual says 6 and the filter I would go motorcraft. i use Mobil 1 and motorcraft w/ 6 quarts. Will it make a difference between synthetic or not, probably not if you keep up with the changes.
