Default poor fuel economy

just like the title says i have a 03 gt with slp catted x pipe and magnaflow magnapacks catback now after i installed the x pipe i had a leak and threw a running lean code so i shut off the rear sensors and problem was fixed, but my fuel economy went to ****, the rpms are also sticking at around 1200 when brought back to an idle and then fall to around 200 and the sar seems like it wants to die but then brings itself back up and it is real choppy it surges from 760 to 820. i know the iac is probably to blame for the idle but i only have 38000 on the ticker and dont think that the car should be acting up.....for instance i filled up today and drove around 15 miles total in stop and go traffic and i used a quarter tank of gas. at $3.89+ a gallon it is killing me... any suggestions

cleaning the iac is just a temp fix replacing it would be better. maybe try turning the rear o2's back on 2 see if that helps.....

to change the fuel filter do you have to have an empty tank or can you do it whenever?

i retuned it and it seems to idle better and it drops faster but its still surging in the low rpms. ill put on a new iac tomorrow and fuel filter as soon as my tank goes empty. With the way im using gas it should be 2 days...

you just need to release the pressure from the lines with a shrader valve thats under the hood. after that you just need the fuel line disconnect tool from autozone (3/8th) for $5. When you take the old filter out, some fuel will spill on you and on the street but its not too bad.
