so I got a q then now... I got my tuner from brenspeed and I have loaded the "93 octane" tuneand been loading it with 93 octane fuel. Do they not adjust the spark much or at all on their canned tunes? Should I adjust mine to get more out of it? I just assumed that they did that there for me.

no...its NOT THAT brenspeed does not adjust the timing much on the 93 tune....because they do! it is supposed to come set at the best/peak spark rate for 93 octane. meaning that if you modify brents tune, and advance the spark even more, there is a chance of ping/knock. hence the reason i add 2 gallons of 101 octane, and then turn the timing all the way up, for a few more horses. and like i mentioned before, no knocks or pings.

edit: now should you do this also?? well....that part is up to you.

I have the sct x cal 3 loaded 93 tune then advanced timing one level at a time and tested it out did not get any ping so went to the highest setting no ping. and all is good. If you going to mess with the spark go one level at a time that away you can check for ping and check to see if you notice any diffrence in power. instead of going all the way to the top and not knowing the diffrence in the levels.

yeh i crannked it all the way up and noticed some ping at real low rpms like around 900-1000 in 5th gear cruising around town above that it was fine though, so unfortunently i had to lower it a couple degrees.

find away to raise your octane higher than 93 and you can crank it back up, with no ping.

if you go the octane booster route....choose wisely....only a few actually raise your octane levels/work.

(for other ppl reading this....obviously the octane booster is not going to give/add him any horsepower....thats not why he would be buying it. ...it would be to raise his octane level a bit higher, to where he can raise his timing higher (with out knock/ping), which in turn would yeild a few more ponys.)

Good info. Timing can make a difference. Not huge, but noticeable.

i put a canned SCT tune on my 01 cobra, and it pinged a little, so i backed it off 2 degrees. I then changed my plugs to TR6's (1 step cooler), then advanced my timing all the way (+4 <4000, +2 >4000). The pinging was gone and it was definately a noticable difference.
