Default Do I really need a tuner?

So I'm getting 3.73's next week at Modular Depot and after talking with the guys, they are going to hook my car to a tuner and recalibrate the speedo for me. My question is...if I have to disconnect the battery or install a new battery later, will the computer default to factory settings and mess up my speedo again? I also need to know what a tuner could actually do for me since I do NOT plan on running anything higher than 87 octane for now. The car is a daily driver, manual and I don't take it to a track (yet). [sm=smiley15.gif]

Once a tune is put in the computer it will stay stored if you remove battery or whatnot. A handheld tuner will wake up a stock car....even a 87 tune. Its a good investment for your fututre mods.

Thanks. I will let them set my speedo for nowand get a tuner a bit later. I plan on keeping this car for a few years and the mod bug has got me.
