Since you say it is for your father in-law im gonna say get a Flowmaster catback kit.
Then if he wants it louder I would suggest a highflow cat h-pipe to keep the old schoolmuscle sound.
If you remove the cats completely it will sound too metallic and tinny in the upper rpms.
