best brake pads for an 01 gt with stock brake setup rotors etc

Well, stock brakes are alright at best. As for performance without paying out the a$$, there's not much to chose from. A lot of people use Hawk pads.

Hawk HPS Pads, you'll love them when they're hot but when they're cold you'll notice that they have similar stopping distances as stock pads. However on the stock gt calipers they are still marginal at best when it comes to stopping our porky coupes. Look into upgrading your front brakes, cheapest alternative is the mach1 brake kit (same as the cobra brakes). With hps pads they have held up to abuse pretty damn well (2 autocross sessions - about 10 laps on thunderhill, and a handful of soloII events)
