cant park car on hill

cant park car on hill
so my 99 5-speed manual has an issue, i park the car, nose down, on a hill put it in first pull the ebrake and leave. when i come back my car has slowly but surely rolled down the hill. i can here a creek and than the car rolls about half an inch. any insight? and please dont tell me to pull my e-brake tighter btw car and tranny have 85k AND its a vert.

I'd imagine your clutch is going out, with the car in first it should be damn near impossible for the car to roll forward an inch with a good clutch. I know mine doest atleast, and I live in/park on the streets of san francisco, and my gf's house is in the hilliest area of the city.

Something I learned as a kid during Driver's Ed:
- When parking faced up-hill, put the car in first
- When parking faced down-hill, put the car in reverse.
The thing is, when the car is in first, the transmission CANNOT go reverse, and vice versa for Reverse... It's just how it is..

Yeah, you can't park your car facing down hill and put it in first gear & expect your E-brake to hold it. With your car in first facing down a hill, it's almost like having it in neutral.
Put it in reverse, she won't go anywhere. [&:]
