Replacing AC compressor.. need help
I am replacing my AC compressor and need to know how much oil to add. I found a few posts that mention draining the oil out of the old compressor and adding the same amount to the new compressor. Problem is my old compressor burned up and I got less than 1 ounce out of the old one.
Also has anyone ever changed the orifice tube? I ordered one from autozone, but I found another web site where someone said the orifice tubes are not servicable on the mustangs.

RE: Replacing AC compressor.. need help
Hey man, PM me with some details about the work after you get it done, mine is shot and I have a horrid squeal coming from it down there somewhere, as well as the A/C being non-existant. Here's what I have found.
Per Haynes manual:
Installation of Accumulator/Drier
Step 6:
If you are replacing the Accum/Drier, drain the refrigerant oil from the old A/D. Add the same amount plus two ounces of clean oil to the new Accumulator. This will maintain the correct oil level in the system after the repairs have been made.
Installation of Compressor
Step 7:
If the compressor is being replaced, drain any shipping oil that may be in the new compressor.
Step 8:
If the amount of refrigerant oil drained from the old compressor was 3 oz. or less, add a total of 6 oz. of new oil to the new compressor. If the amount drained was more than 5 oz., add that amount of new oil, and if the drained amount was between 3 and 5 oz., add that amount plus an extra oz. to the new compressor.
Hope that helps.
PM me with some prices you found for the compressor, as well as the accumulator/drier.
I have to do this job cause of the squeal that's driving me INSANE, but I don't know if I just want to get a bypass pulley and temporarily delete my A/C since I don't use it very often at all.

RE: Replacing AC compressor.. need help
If your new a/c compressor is shipped with no oil the spec is 6 ounces. Although some new compressor's come full with oil and should have a tag on them telling you if they have oil already installed or not. Also if your replacing the reciever dryer it holds 2 ounces. And Ford recommends that you use new refrigerant oil.

in the process of deleting the a/c now, you dont need a delete pulley just need to find the rite length belt, just so happened that its the one gates belt i dont have at my shop. one size is too big and one is to small, so ill be ordering 2 tommorrow because i believe there are 2 sizes missing in my stock.

Also the orifice tube is installed in the line that goes from the condensor to the evaporator. The Luid line which is the thin one. The orifice tube is molded into the line and has to be replaced as a unit.
