longer 5th gear?
oh say i do a lot of highway driving, and when im on it im right at 2k rpms. at 60mph.. would getting a longer 5th gear be a possibility? you know for gas and longer engine life? like i'd be doing 70 and be at 1700 rpm or so? good idea?? car, 97 gt 5spd

RE: longer 5th gear?
the only real way to do it is to buy a Viper spec T-56 with the longer 6th gear ratio. This is going to run you about 2500-3000 for the transmission and then another thousand or so for other parts and labor.. not going to be cost effective.

RE: longer 5th gear?
not to mention a longer 5th t5 would be useless in the city. i shift into 5th at 40mph with 4.10s and im at 1300rpm...almost bogging. a longer 5th with stock gears would proboble be WORSE on the car..so u would be driving around town in 4th gear using more gas than u would in 5th with a stock t5. lol so your screwed either way on this i would think.
t56= non cost effective
t5 longer gear...same situation
