Default 96 GT Auto trans problem

Well i just got done with a PI head swap about a week ago and i love the gain in power it gave me it is a killer mod for pre 99 gt's. Ok now back to the subject i am now having isues with my trans engaging into drive, it acts as if it is in nuturel when it is cold but if i drop it down to first it works fine or if i turn on my B&M shift plus that increases the line pressure to the trans it also works fine. I don't know much about transmissions and would like to ask if anyone has had this problem or any hints to what this mite be. thank you for reading and if anyone has a Q on the headswap i will be more than happy to try and answer them.

Does it do this only when it is cold? If it does it when it is warm too, it sounds like it is time for a rebuild. And if you have to rebuild it get a shift kit and a stall convertor installed too. How many miles on it also?
