Default Speedometer correction?

i installed my 4.10s last week and my speedo is off, which i expected it would be. but when i call mustangsunlimited they tell me i need their black gear which will set it right, but when i call almsot every other place they tell me i need a tuner to set the speedo correct. its a 96 GT with mt. any ideas if i should go with the speedo gear or the $99 speedo recalibrator.

I belivea '96 would have a mechanical speedometer, and you will need the drive gear to correct it...

Correct. It's a mechanical gear. A tuner will not correct this. That's for 99s and up.

right, it is a mechanical gear, but its not a cable style speedometer. the sensor reads how fast the gear is spinning and processes it thru the computer. the tuner for the 96-98 has you connect it tthru the sensor and into the computer, or something like that. and then u can tell the computer what is in it and it corrects it automatically. either way, i cant find any other source that says to use the gear other than mustangsunlimited. i guess ill try the gear and see what happens, but by the descrption i think i still might be way off with the speedo.

I have a 96' gt with the 4.10 gear and honestly if you just figure out where the speed limits read on your speedo just don't even bother. my 4.10's have been in for 2 years and i've mastered where 60 km/h is and 80 km/h is etc..... just get used to it and forget the headache of tuners lol!!! i dunno i just couldn't be bothered to be honest

yea its not a big deal just kinda remembering where the speedo is at relative to speed and blah blah, just figure if i can fix it why not right? i jsut dont wanna do it for another 100 over the gears lol and yea the gear is only like 6.95 and shipping would probably be more than the part lol. we'll see what happens in the next week or so and figure something out

i would get the $7 part you would think it would work thats what they sell it to do. and if it doesnt work the forget it just figure out how far off the speedo is maybe drive behind someone you know going like 30 and see how fast it says your going i think its something like 7 MPH off but i might be wrong and just make a mental note. i wouldnt spend 100 on it though but $7 seems like its worth a try
