sqeaking or clunking or creaking? if its a SQEAK i had the same kind of noise...it was coming from the steering column itself....simple lube job fixed that....i would try to verify the exact location of the noise before you throw a hundred some bucks + an alignment (unless you mark the tie rods) + labor

It's definitely coming from the rack and pinion, and it sounds similar to an old door hinge making a squeaking/creaking noise. I must admit I'm a bit confused though. Why would it cost hundreds of dollars to do? It seems like everyone was saying it can either be done for free by cutting them down or for not much more just by replacing them.
