Actually something that I can't stand is the digital calipers and meters. For some reason I just don't feel as comfortable using them as I do something with mechanical components inside of it. I don't know if you or anyone else feels the same way or if I'm just weird.

You're talking about vernier calipers? If so, I rarely use them unless absolutely needed.
Well I mean if I do it, it turns out the way its supposed to then I would definately be motivated to do many more.
I'm a firm believe in the fact that knowledge comes from experience. There are too many "keyboard" racers and know-it-alls on the internet as it is, and the only place to learn 100% is from real life, hands on experience.
If you have someone with some background knowledge that can assist you (but allow you to do the work) you'll gain a lot from doing it yourself.
I use depth gauges, micrometers and bore gauges the most. Even snap gauges sometimes as well. I guess it comes from the fact that I prefer to be precise damn near everytime. I'm **** about that kind of stuff
I never use bore guages because I am not usually building engines but when playing around or working on a project I find myself using my verniers (sometimes it as a depth gauge), both micrometers and dial micrometers and my trusty scale.
