What gears?

I'd stick with Ford Racing. If you get anything else and "IF" there's a drone, the installation shop could claim that it's the quality of gears and not their work.
There was a point when Motive made FMS gears and those did drone sometimes but that's not the case anymore.

just saw a set of ford racing gears on ebay with the complete install kit, except the axel bearings for 99.00. Do I need to replace the axel bearings? I plan on doing the install at my dads. HE has a lift and the know how, he has been building cars since he was 18.

If you're taking the time to do it, why not do it all but no, it's not absolutely necessary.
If you don't want to upgrade to 31 splines then at least rebuild your T-Loc. It adds up pretty quick. I'd weigh in on how you beat up the car for the extras.
