Tranny issue?
How many miles on your Mustang?
For starters you might want to check the fluid to see if it's low? Also check the condition of the fluid? If it's rusty or brownish looking with a "not so good smell"...then it's pretty much overdue for a change. Some people flush their transmissions also to get all of the old fluid out, when they put new fluid in there. The fluid in your transmission should resemble the color pink and look rather clearish on the dipstick. If your in doubt pick-up some new transmission fluid and look at the resemblance. Your fluid will be somewhere inbetween those 2 descriptions though...depending on how long the fluid has been in the transmission, leading to the breakdown of the fluid.
That is a start...if your transmission fluid appears to be fine then you might have some issues that may require a R&R of the transmission?

I don't think transmission fluid has anything to do with the problem he described at all.
Automatic transmissions usually adjust their shift points to the driving habits of their owner. The person who had the car before you proably whomped on it when getting up to speed.

Torque converter going bad is most likely going to be giving you a lot of slippage in any if not all gears. Other than that don't know what else to tell you? From another comment, yes the computer is going to relearn your shifting pattern but general shifting problems could indicate an internal problem. I had a 91 5.0 that had sloppy shifting where the shifting was taken a lot longer and longer over time. Before I knew it...the transmission was junk. So the computer may or may not be at fault? Look for any trouble codes and/or maybe try disconnecting the battery for a bit and then hook it back up to try to clear out the learning curve in the computer...might just be a hiccup or glitch? Other than that just take it to a transmission specialist for diagnosis?
shifting will lag w/ low fluid . was the engine running when you checked the fluid ? it should be . if thats not it you may have a bad accumulator or 2 . you didn't say which shifts this is occurring on .

Its seems to be 2nd gear, but I noticed the other day that when it is in 2nd and i give a some gas it comes out of 2nd really easily like at about 1/2 thottle, and it doesn't go back into a gear till I let off completely.
hey, i used to have a sn95 that did the same thing...ford released an updated valve body for this problem. apparently there are sticky valves and weak springs within. your 1-2 shift valve is prob gettin bound up or spring is shot. hope that helps.
