I would seriously just get a new mid pipe. After buying the cats and having a shop weld them in you might as well just get a new one.

If your state has no Emissions laws you only have to worry about noise Violations.. And if you were going to worry about those, why did you buy a Mustang?

O/R pipes are cheap, compared to High Flows. Although if you plan to get Long Tubes in the near future, you need to select the right type of Mid Pipe to accompany them (In most cases).

I've got the two Magnaflow cats welded on to my BBK H-Pipe. Funny thing, at idle, it sounds just as loud as my off-road X-pipe I had. Plus, unlike off-road pipes, you retain some of your low-end torque.

It is still a federal offense to remove those cats, doesn't matter what state. Chances that you get caught for that are slim but you will get effed in the a if you do.

Might also depend on the brand of HFC you purchase.
Youtube?
You've never removed cats before have you? Removing the cats is what makes it loud as hell, regardless of pipe diameter. Also, longtubes DO NOT make your car louder!! If you think it does then you've obiviously never had them. The cat-back affects volume as does the cats. The cats affect the actual volume more than anything. Trust me, I've had two GTs, two Machs, a GTO, and a Z28. They all were experimented on.

+1 on a new mid-pipe though, the stock ones flow like shat, especially after you remove cats, weld in pipe, etc.

He was responding to the original post about replacing the stock cats with high flow cats, not removing them completely.

Correct..

In answer to your question, yes I have removed Cats (Goes with the territory of being an Apprenticing Mechanic.. I like to play around and see what's what.)
As my Sig states, I'm currently running HF Cats, and I also have run without any cats.
The sound difference between no cats on my NPI and High Flows has been too close to call, really. For the possibility of an impending ticket for No Cats, High Flows are the way to go.
