A persisting TICK!! I NEED HELP
Ok, as you might remember i was posting alot of stuff on here awhile back about my enging making a ticking noise. It started out when i got my car back from having the PI swap and the tick was almost unnoticable. Over a time of a couple of weeks, the tick started getting louder and louder. Now its Just striaght out embarissing. This has been going on for about 4-5 months. It is very loud when i first crank the engin on a cold start and quitens down when the engine begins to warm but is still very loud. ESP when i pass by a brick wall or building. The tick goes with the engine speed and IS NOT THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE. i first thought it might be a lash adjuster but i have checked them twice already. (does the lash adjuster supposed to be stiff, i had one that i could barely push about a 16th of an inch.)
But anyway, could this be an exhaust leak at the manifold were they did the head swap and would it sound like a valve train problem? im about to post a vid in a sec of the sound.

this is very simple to determine, go to Canadian tire or the like and purchase a stethoscope, the first thing you need to do is take the steel rod and toss it in the garbage, next take a piece of steel tube (brake line works perfectly) and insert it in the end. now start your car and listen around all the flanges and the manifolds, with this device your will be able to pick up the smallest of leaks
I had a tick and a month or two later the spark plugs blew out of the head. Turns out my spark plug holes were stripped, and the ticking was air coming out of the head through the spark plug hole.
Also could be an exhaust leak.
Make sure your oil is at the proper level.
If all of that fails auto zone rents compression testers for free. You just have to pay for it up front, and they refund your money when you return it. I'd check that last to see if there's any internal issues.

[QUOTE=russ98stang;5616889]heres the vid.
the chirping sound is a the belt, the tick noise does not sound like an exhaust leak, use the stethoscope to try and pinpoint the noise, you may possibly have a bad lifter or perhaps one of the rollers on the rocker is flattened

that sounds exactly like what my 99 motor did at 83k i thought it was upper end too.pulled it replaced w 02 motor,but when i took it apart it was the rod bearing (6bucks) replaced it noise no more.if its a windsor motor i was told,i was lucky it lasted that long.romeo motors have a better quality to them.i know u said u just replaced upper end .but this is only MO.
