Default Longtubes

Are longtubes really worth the price difference over shorties?

What are the approximate power gains of each one?

I will have to buy a shorty x/h pipe as well as the more expensive longtubes.

IT even seems like it would be a better use of my money to get 4.10s and a tuner, spray, or something else, am I right here?

Longtubes + shorty midpipe + install costs

-or-

Motive Bearing Kit (8.8in)

$74.99

SCT X3 PowerFlash Tuner and 4.10 Gear Kit

$539.99

SPEC Stage 2 Clutch

$334.99

SPEC Billet Aluminum Flywheel - 6 Bolt

$334.99

Black Mustang Bumper Insert Letters

$13.99

SLP Loudmouth Resonators (Shotgun-Style, Pair)

$139.99

Total: $1,438.94

That is my *revised* plan because my clutch hits really weak and I want gears. I would be taking off my flowmaster mufflers and replacing them with the loudmouths.

your going to want to do both rear end and exhaust eventually i assume, so doesn't really matter which one goes on first...but id prob go the rear end build first.

I have BBK Longtubes with the BBK O/R X pipe and it sounds amazing! but, I probably wouldn't do the Longtubes again. They cost a lot in the first place, the install takes about 8 hours, so it's incredibly difficult to do it yourself or incredibly expensive if you take it to a shop. Additionally, you can't drop the tranny for clutch replacement or anything else without taking off the headers which would be another 8 hours. I live in CA where there's smog, so if I had gone with shorties, I would be able to just mount the stock mid pipe with the cats on there and pass smog no problem, but now I have to resort to hoping the BBK X pipe with cats will pass me.

So... If I were you, I'd go with the shorties. Sure you may get a few more hp (maybe 5-10 tops), but I really don't think it's worth the hassle

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love my long tubes, the little bit of extra power and sound is definitely amazing. Not to mention, changing out midpipes is a BREEZE! To me, the cost/hassle tho is just more than I expected.

go with longtubes, they are def. worth it for the sound alone. shorties can be just as big of a PITA to install, so you might as well go big, and get the LT's.

BTW, $1400 for LT's and an install?? sounds like youre getting screwed.....install them yourself, it'll bring you and your car closer together.

i recommend upgrading your clutch before you install LTs, once theyre in, you'll have to take them off again to replace the clutch.
and yeah, they're expensive to put in, bt if you shop around im sure u can get a better price than $1400.
there's a shop here that'll install the long tubes, mid pipe, and catback for $900-1000. still expensive, but not quite as much as the $1400 price.

LONGTUBES! def. worth the price if you are gonna spend the money on headers anyway.
