Default Another Gear ?

So the shop I ordered my 4.10s through has taken a month and a half to get my gears and bearing set in....so I canceled the order because I found a set of motive 4.30s for $75 from a guy here in town.

So now it appears I will be getting even steeper gears than i ever imagined...so I have a few q's for you guys with more "gear experience"...

how much top end am I gonna lose in my cobra?

I can only imagine that taking this route means i will have to stay N/A....any thoughts?

will the factory t-lok hold up to the steep gearing?

is this a bad idea in your guys' opinions?

I am picking them up tomorrow but will not get them installed for a little while now it looks like...so any thing you guys have to add might stop me from installing a mistake...but for $75 I couldnt pass it up.

Top end? Plan on spending much time over 120?

The tlok will be fine, if you still have IRS it's the halfshafts and wheelhop you should be concerned about.

I went with FRPP ISF 4.10s ($240 a set and worth every penny) and feel they're perfect for a DD. Drove a friends 98 with 4.30s and they felt too short IMO. Most NA 99/01 guys go 4.10s, some swear by 4.30s and 4.56s.

Never buy used gears. Ever. Not worth finding out there's something wrong with them.

Buying used gears risky...unless you know the person IMO

LOL....

no i dont plan on spending time over 120. I was just curious because I have only raced one LS1 WS6, and that damn car pulled well into triple digits. I wouldnt want to put gears in just to get *** hurt even worse.

And the guy selling the gears is a shop owner here in my hometown (home for the holidays)and says the gears are in immaculate condition, otherwise he wouldnt be selling them. I get to inspect them tomorrow (he is driving them to me) before i make the purchase, and if they seem worn or broken, obviously I wont buy them.

I dont plan on taking her to the drag strip until this wheel-hop is gone, so i dont think breaking my half shafts is going to be a problem.

We will see how it goes...i was set on 4.10s, but now i kind of cant wait to try the 4.30s. Anything is better than the stock ratio, I just hope it works out.

4.56 gears on a 2 valve!? thats insanely steep unless u can rev to 8 grand! 4.3s on a cobra should be no problem tho,u got 7000 rpm to work with.

Just installed my 410's (had 3.73's) and I am in love. 373's are a good gear but as for me I decided to stay N/A so I needed that extra uumph.
