Default Wheel spacers up front

My buddys GF has a 03 v6 stang with 17x8 bullits, he wants to get her wheel spacers for it. According to American muscles website you cannot run their spacers with factory wheels why? also what about on the front could you use 1 inch spacers on the front wheels? Now for my own knowledge benefit what does hub centric mean? I know its better to use hub centric spacers, but why?

A wheel that is centered or located on the hub by a machined center hole-as opposed to "lug centered" wheels that are located by the position of the lug nuts alone.

I am thinking they advise you not to go with spacers on stock wheels because many stock wheels do not have the inset on the inside of the wheel to accommodate a spacer. I have had no problems what so ever with my 1" spacers on the rear of my car (but it has aftermarket 17x9 cobra wheels).
