Default Grinding when turning and applying the brakes?

I've asked many people the same question and no one seems to be quite sure. So I figure I'd ask people that have the same car as me. When I make a somewhat sharp turn and hit the breaks with about 50% pressure, I can feel the brake pedal pulsate and I can hear what sounds like metal on metal grinding, like a gear is grinding. I put the car on a lift at work, took the wheels off, tryed to find the problem, but couldn't. The only thing I can figure, is maybe bad wheel bearings? I don't get the problem when I'm hitting the brakes at any pressure going in a straight line, or when making a soft turn. I'm not sure if this is normal or what, but if someone knows what might be the problem, I'd be greatly appreciative.
Thanks always
Jon

Just thinking out loud here but are you sure it's the brakes? Our braking systems work on the hydraulic pressure put out by the power steering pump. If it's only on hard turns maybe it's something in your power steering rack?

Is your ABS light on?

Usually when the brake pedal pulsates like that...It's your ABS activating.

ABS light is not on, I suppose it could be the steering rack, however it only happens when turning and applying the brakes, although, every once and a while, when I make a turn and accelerate, I can hear like a crack noise, coming from what sounds, like under the dash board in the left corner.... Maybe the cold weather? idk

Could it be a bad strut/shock I forget what the front ones are called I just know when they wear out they make a horrible squeeky bed sound that happens when you turn/brake because it shifts the cars stance a little bit. Just go outside of your car, and push down hard on the front of both sides, and see if the noise happens if it does it might need a replacement they're only like 30-60$.

Thanks,

-Matt

Does it do it when you're making a turn and not hitting the brakes?

It sounds like it's just your ABS doing it's job. ABS pulsates the brake pedal to avoid the rotors getting too hot and locking up. When this happens the ABS light won't come on. It only comes on when the ABS module throws a DTC cause there's a problem in the system.

That's probably what it is. Or at least what I'm going to say it is.

Thank you everyone for helping me out with answers! I greatly appreciate it.
