Default A little confused on tuning

Okay i was going to purchase a handheld tuner but i have a few questions i havent been able to find by searching.

if i buy the tuner must i also buy "chips" for it? or ...
can u buy the chips take them to a dyno and have the tunes put on the chip and the chip installedo n the car?

Im kinda confused on how this works because i always though u had to get the handheld...get the chips for it...take it to the dyno shop have them dyno tune it using the handheld install the tunes onto the chips and use the tuner to install it onto the car.

Can i get some clarification before i make a purchase please?

usinga handheld tuner like a predator, you would only use that to upload a tune to your car's ecu. i have a predator nd am happy with the included tunes for now, but will eventually get a custom tune for it.

You don't need chips if you have a handheld tuner.
