looking to clean my engine bay up before i go ahead and install some of the chrome pieces i've just purchased. Just wondering what the best degreaser/cleaner to use is?? i know there is a sticky on this but i won't be using the hose becuase i want to do a good through run through of it by hand while cleaning it before i get it back on the road for spring. i was thinking more like using a degreaser and a rag. never cleaned an engine before so any advice would be helpful

Regular foaming degreaser and simple green is what I use. If you have the time and money have some of your color code paint pressed into a rattle can and touch up the really bad areas. (Make sure you know that the underhood code is normally different than you body code.)

should i just take one rag and soak it with simple green/water rub it on then take another rag and dry??

Any auto paint supply would have the code. OR IF you're really feeling froggy, you can get the outside paint code and and paint everything you reach and see the gloss color.
