How did you take it off?

If you just pulled it off then the internal spring clip may be distorted, and/or the plastic barrel may be cracked--in either case you will likely need a new ****.

The proper procedure for removal is to pull forward on the spring clip, through the hole in the barrel, with a small tool.

well I used the proper method and it doesn't look like anything is broken.
Is there a trick to putting it on. Or do you just slide it on the pin?

It just slides over the pin, but the little metal tab is bent too far.

Hold the switch and take a small screw driver and push metal clip further away from the end of the **** (the end you grasp to turn on the lights). This is a Chinese finger trap type of connection. When you slide the **** into place, you will see the metal clip be flexed further into the **** and how it grasps the triangular pin.

Don't push it very hard as it is hardened metal and will break.

I don't know how often the previous owner took my head light **** off but when I took it off the metal clasp had lost all of its tension so I had to buy a new ****. Usually you can bend it back in place so that it will hold. This time I couldn't.

New ***** aren't too expensive but it was a surprise when it came in with the metal shaft attached. To install the new **** with metal shaft you have to take the instrument cluster bezel out, press a down on a button on top of the head light switch to remove the old metal shaft, put the instrument cluster bezel back in, and push in the new ****. It automatically locks in place.
