Default How much louder without cats

I was going to remove the cats on my 03 cobra, does anyone know how it will sound with stock mufflers? should I replace the mufflers also?

i would go with a catback first, and then go with the o/r midpipe.

if you just want to remove the cats and leave the stock catback, thats fine too. it will be decently louder.

I have no idea how it will sound with the stock mufflers, but I noticed a dramatic difference going from dynomax weld-in mufflers with the stock catted h-pipe to a o/r x pipe and pypes exhaust...just make sure you use mil eliminators or a tuner so you don't throw a check engine light.

I would just wait until you could afford a nice catback or full exhaust for that matter.

Removing the cats will increase the sound of your exhaust rather you put new mufflers on or not... I figure what everyone is saying is you will get much more of a volume increase getting rid of your stock mufflers.

I have removed my cats by installing a basanni offroad X-pipe and my oberservation is (I already had flowmasters, and an onroad X-pipe before):

1. Different tone. Somewhat more crackly. Sounds more like a race car.
2. Slight volume increase. Probably not even half of what changing your mufflers will do.
3. Check engine light will come on unless you install simulators or get your computer reprogrammed. Will not cause the car to run any different though, just emmissions.

Yeah my O/R X definitely added a huge sound with my Flowmasters, loudest car in the neighborhood. CEL light came on, bought a Diablosport Predator to turn off the rear O2 sensors, found out that feature was no longer available on the Predator, kept the tune on and never had a CEL again. Took the tune off briefly, CEL again. Put the tune back on, no CEL. WHATEVER. However I get about 12 MPG and am running so rich the pipes are black in a week after polishing. I guess I need a custom tune, the Predator took away my CEL but 12 MPG on premium gas is brutal, glad it's not my daily driver.

my advice is to save a hair more money, get an o/r X or H and a catback. it will sound 10x better and will yeild much better gains plus puttin a big on your face as well

Wow, thanks for the info. My car sounds like a pup and I don't want the loudest car in the neighborhood. Something affordable and deep sounding would be nice.

My advice would be to get an O/R H and some Flowmasters or MAC. That will offer you that deep, but not crazy loud sound that your looking for.

Whatever you do, get rid of the stock mufflers. Someone on here dissected a stock muffler and that thing has more kinks in it than the economy right now.
