yea, do a basic tune up..change the plugs, the coils should be fine and they are 50 bucks a piece so just get spark plugs for now, i would only get 220-230 to a tank in my 02 gt around town 5spd...litte hiway with it..but i did get 160-180 when i would hammer it...Shift under 2k rpms...that will save you a couple mpgs over shifting atl ike 3k...my 97 cobra with 4:10s, just got 205 miles to the tank with mixed city and hiway...and i got on it to 120 6 times...yea i o****ed...ahah so you should only get around 190-230 is the usual....u bought a v8...put it in neutral down hills ahah good luck with it. they are almost bullet proof and area ton of fun..put an exhasut on it..u will think you are going 100X faster..but ur gas gaugee willl suffer alot...

also, park on an incline such as a slanted driveway, and see if any gas leaks out after a few hours.... when i got my car the grommit at the filler neck was dry rotted and leaked bad...i drove like 70 miles and was on E though so it was a lot worse

i drove mine for the first time in february, when i was home from iraq and having not driven a car for a year, and the worst tank i got was about 20.5 and that was when i was acting an idiot. best i got was 28 but that was babying it on the highway.
does it have any mods done? definitely do teh basic tune up stuff like 5.0 85GT said.
good luck

I know we drive different cars but mine has the exact same total mileage as yours and is in perfect running condition. I get 280-300kms per 50 litre tank almost every time and mine is a weekend car and I kick the snot out of it. ALL of my driving is city though so you can expect more if you log any freeway miles but surely don't expect 300 miles to a tank. I figure with my 3.55's limping along @ 2000rpm's on a dead flat highway until I drained the the tank somewhere in the ballpark of 400kms would be possible...

I just bought a 2001 GT with 67k miles on it. Engine, paint job etc perfect, no leaks, had a mechanic check the engine out no problems. The car burns gas like crazy, and I just chalked it up to it being a V8. I was telling a friend in school that just filled the car up with grade 87, and set the trip counter and I am at 133 miles, and the fuel guage is a little before a quarter of a tank left, I think I may get around 160-180 miles on this tank. He said I should get close to 300? Is this true, should I have the fuel line checked out?
No, I have an 03 GT 5 speed and I shift at +/- 1900 Rpms and I am right where you are. It's usually about 15 MPG's city which isn't bad for a V8. I say your right where you should be. 300 miles to a tang would be ALL Highway. Does your friend drive a honda? lol.

I have an 03 GT Auto and I can definitely get 300 miles to a tank without ALL highway....in fact I can do that with about half to 75% highway. Really.....theres too many variables to give you a cut and dry answer.

I do ZERO highway driving, mostly in town, a lot of short trips like 2-3 mile trips a lot of times (back and forth to work). my best was about 16.5 mpg which is about 220 miles a tank or so, at least to the point where the fuel light comes on. It's not all that uncommon for me to get 13.5-15mpg (180-190 a tank) with this type of driving, especially in the winter. I drive very conservatively. my car is extremely well maintained. The killer for me is the short trips though, my engine doesn't even reach operating temp before I get to work.
