We just purchased a 2000 GT and it has a few things that need repaired. First thing I want to tackle is the brake pedal that is binding when the pedal get close to full brake. In speaking to a repair shop they seem to think it is the hydrobost or power steering pump. I'm leaning to the hydrobost. But I'm also wondering if it could be one of the brake caliper pistons. Has anyone every had this problem before or any suggestions to confirm problem before I purchase a 280.00 part and tear everything apart to find out that it's something else. Any insight would help.

I am pretty sure the master brake cylinder is know to go out out these cars.

Here's an update. And with my luck lately, we changed the Hydro-boast last night with no help. Still getting the same problem. I noticed two things. 1) when we pulled the rear drivers side tire, there was a extreme amount of brake dust on the inside of the rim, much more then on the outside of the rim or other tires. This leads me to think something with parking brake. Now when driving and applying hard braking,, it fills like an Antilock brake problem. Now these issues may not be related. But I do know that when you apply hard brakes, the rear kicks in. Any info would be helpful.

I'm going to pull the power steering line and make sure nothing there, I guess the Master cylinder is the next step if I can figure something else out.

Also, there is a plunger switch that is attached to a green plastic bracket that is broken. I can't find it in the shop manuals. it shows the brake light switch, but this mounts below that and is attached to the side of the pedal mounting bracket. If anyone has a 2000 wiring manual and can fax me the brake system I'd appriciate it. I just order the wiring manual but that will be next week before I get it.

well you could always check if the pistons are frozen.

The rear calipers pistons are more or less "screwed in". See if you can compress them in (you will need a tool from Napa, Its for fords and lincons for break calipers, its NOT the square one they will probally try to sell you, its a big black circle that fits on the end of a socket wrench. You put it on the caliper to "screw it in")

check the front ones too, they can just be pressed in like a traditional piston

I screwed both the rear caliper in the last time we changed them. So they were good when we installed new pads a few months ago. I guess I need to check and see if they have moved equally. But the problem existed before we changed the pads and there was not signs of problems with the rear brakes then, I looked over all the calipers and pistons then. But I didn't check to see if they were out differently before. So I'll add that to my list of things to check, thanks,
