Just FYI modular heads are sold side specific. You can get just one. Or just have a reputable shop helicoil new threads in after head removal. It will be far cheaper than you think. You do NOT have to replace the heads. I would NOT do this is if you have never done it. You WILL screw it up, and then you'll be pissed because you ruined the head. Also without removing the head, you will get aluminum in the chamber, which will NOT blow out of the exhaust. It will melt within the first few heat cycles (1-2 sec.) and bond itself to what ever it comes in contact with. To do this job right, the head must be removed. Can it be done without removal? Yes. Would I want anyone I know to do it that way? Absolutely not.

I know that isn't what you want to hear...but if you try to save a few bucks now, it's going to cost you a lot more later. This is just my opinion

Heads are not side specific they are interchangeable. If you are afraid to do this yourself then take it somewhere but really any monkey can do it. Don't worry about the shavings just vacuum out as much as you can. I tapped a straw to a vacuum hose and it worked fine. The rest came out the exhaust and we found it months later melted in the stock headers when we pulled them to put on longtubes.

since i cant drive the car, its going to cost me $100 to get a uhaul trailer to tow it back to dallas. my moms husband knows a guy and trusts him and he said he would put a helicoil in for $258... so im lookin at $360 for this job.

if i can do it here in houston with a kit from autozone and drive the car back that would save some real cash, but i dont want to make things worse...

Thought I would make a subtle point, but have you ever tried to bolt a passenger side head to the drivers side or vice versa? That would put the cam chains on the back of the motor, or the intake ports on the bottom of the engine. I dunt thank it wood werk too weyl dat way.

I take it you have never built an engine or even looked at the heads on a 4.6L. They are exactly the same. All you have to do is switch a few oil galley plugs around and you can put them on either side.

Don't try to correct me unless you know what you are talking about because I will make you look stupid.
