Gear whine (HALP!)

yea i just put a set of 4.10s in my buddies mach this weekend (took about 5 hrs. but fought us the whole way). i always use new bearings mainly because you have all the stuff apart anyway so why not. his front bearing was froze to his 3.55 pinion so we had to heat it up with the torch to get it to bust loose. both the wheel speed sensors were also rusted in the housing (housing rusts compressin the plastic sensors i guess) so they got trashed. it was a pain.

Yeah that's why I was wondering why this guy didn't use my $100 FRPP bearing kit that I provided him with. Maybe I'll just rebuild the whole rear end. Might as well go all out instead of just dealing with these stupid bearings.

Come on man.. 5hrs??!!!
Just busting your ***** man. I did Dime's gears (the first time 3.73s) in 2hrs, and he had frozen ABS sensors. That was full rebuild minus t-lok... I've done a boatload of cop car rears (plain old t-lok 8.8s) and never had a problem with the front bearing getting stuck. you just need a BFH or an airhammer...
But anyway, enough rambling. Sounds like bearings to me, only way to really tell is to tear it all apart and look at the bearing races and rollers. It will most likely look like rumble strips and/or be pitted. If the bearing preload wasnt set right (which it prolly wasnt) then it will wreck the pinion bearing and make the same noises you speak of. I see it all the time... People think they can do their own pinion seals in the driveway...and when they go to tighten the nut they just crank that thing down and 2 weeks later here I am tearing it all apart..
