Default Generic Electronic Module (GEM)

OK I know the GEM is:

The Generic Electronic Module (GEM) is found on Ford vehicles and is basically a Body Control Computer. It controls many of the following functions on most Ford vehicles: Warning chimes and warning lamps, One-touch down driver’s side window, Daytime Running Lamps, Heated rear window, Windshield washers and wipers, Battery saver, Remote keyless entry, Illuminated entry with remote keyless entry, Interior lighting, Perimeter anti-theft and Four-wheel drive.

Has any one had any problems with these? 2004 Mustang GT the power door locks don't unlock on the drivers side with the switch or key fob. There appears to be power to the switch (per test light) and I also changed the door lock actuator. I've heard the possible solution to this is to replace the GEM. My question is where is the GEM located? If I switch it out, will it mess up any computer functions and where can I find these? Does the dealer have to install these for any reason? Thanks

The only location diagrams I could find:

As to your other questions, I am not sure. The module may need programming since some electrical and computer components do, but I don't know.

In the drawings it looks like there are five separate generic electronic modules: 201a-e.

I believe those are only the connectors going into the GEM. There is only one I think.

When looking at the drawing I thought they went to different places. The box must have connectors on three sides. I tried google but couldn't find a picture.

You probably won't find those pictures anywhere else. I had to go to alldata to get these. It looks like 2 are higher and 3 are lower on the module.

Three on one side, two on another.

Here's the R&R from the '03 shop manual...
