shifter questions
From the "how to" section
On the Tremec 3650 (second half of 01, 02, 03, 04 GTs. 01 Cobra. 03 04 Mach. And 01 02 Bullitt GTs) and T56 (03 04 Cobra) it is not advised to install the shift stops. The shift stops are so you do not over shifter the lever and bend a shift fork inside the tranny. Any other tranny that you have that MGW makes a shifter for; it is advised that you do install the stops. MGW says that you can install the stops of the 56 and 3650, but if not install just right they can severely damage the tranny. It is advised that you install the stops at your own risk on the 56 and 3650.
Just curious as to who installed the shift stops or not on their aftermarket shifter. I did install mine on on my steeda tri-ax but it seems sometimes when I'm stepping on it and bang the shifter into secondit makes a banging sound. Could it be the stops?

Using the shifter stops will cause no damage whatever, provided they are adjusted properly. The nice thing about the shifter stops is you can really bang the gears and not really bang the gears.
I have always used aftermarket shifters with stops and had a T-5, T-3650 and now a T-56, no issues to report.

This is the message George at MGW sent when I asked...
I plugged the holes with 3/8-16 x 3/8" SS button head caps--you can see them in this photo...
I would NOT put them in. I have talked with Tremec in great detail about this and am convinced that they are correct. The tranny has beefy internal stops and does not require the external stops. We mainly put them in for shipping purposes only. We lock the center shaft down so that the shifter will not clang around in shipping. You must remove them prior to installation of the shifter.

George

I'm in the process of installing my MGW (I started last night, but broke my socket wrench and have to get a new one), and was wondering the same thing. I'm not planning on using their shift stops.
I can't wait to get it in!

I think that is the root of the issue with MGW and Tremec stating they are not nedeed--improperly adjusted they can create big problems.
