I posted a thread about a loud sucking noise coming from the engine and I think I found the source, but I have no idea what this thing is. Here is a pic. It is the black box in the middle of the pic. Can anyone tell me what it is? If you squeeze the tube coming from the air inlet the sound stops and the engine seems to run better?

Its a muffler, you can remove it and install a hose in its place also, you may need to clean out the IAC if you have idling issues.

A muffler? Weird. The only idle issues I have is when I am coming to a stop the car will idle a little high then drop when I am stopped. How do you clean the IAC?

Remove the IAC, spray with carb cleaner, Re install. It sounds like its getting stuck open, thats the sucking sound you are hearing. And the box is a Hemholtz Resonator, or so we think lol. See the thread posted above.
