Well the predator is only going to allow you to go 2 degrees over stock. So 12 degrees asvanced is all you're gonna get. Anyhoo... if you go past 14 degrees of timing then you will get a terrible surge when you hit the gas.

What you are listening for when you're looking for detonation is a rattling sound. Take a few small pebbles and put them in a coke can and have someone lightly shake the can from about five feet away and thats what detonation sounds like. You will mostly hear pinging in the top of the rpm band. Get on it hard and you should hear it. If you hear detonation at idle then something is WAY wrong.

Diablo Performance tune bumps timing to 20degrees advanced at idle, with a max of 22-23 degrees advanced at idle. stock timing is already 10degrees advanced.

My 04 GT is bone stock except for an exhuast and i'm hearing pinging under full throttle. Why would it do that at 16,000 miles and should I up the octane from the 87 i'm currently using?
