if all else fails the old screwdriver and hammer trick works as well. (but its messy as hell)

When you put the new filter back on hand tighten it just enough. Do not over tighten. it will be easier to get off next time.

after you drive the car for about a day (or shorter) just look under at the filter and make sure there is no oil collecting on the bottom of the filter. if not, you are good to go.

^+1 and always run oil around the lip of the new filter before installing so the threads don't get stuck on.

thanks guys. i ended up drilling a hole then put a screw driver in it...probly should have just hammered the screw driver in the first place but oh well. i made sure to put oil around the new filter. and yes the hammer and screw driver trick was very messy haha

I know it sounds crazy, but whenever I have anything stuck like that, the first thing I try to do is tighten it a little more and 9/10 it'll break it loose when you turn it the other way.

Glad you got it off though!

+1 on the tightening first method, however, as far as the screwdriver/hammer, if you have to use anything other than a filter wrench, and you are going to pount an object into the filter sidewall, use an awl or somthing sharper than a screwdriver, so you don't put so much stress on the filter nipple itself, you don't want that breaking off.
