Default Oil Question

Hey guys,

Well I changed my oil the other day with full synthetic which is pretty thin and very light colored. Anyway originally I put 5 quarts it and when I lowered the car of the jack and started doing dip stick testing I could not tell for the life of me where the oil level was on the dipstick. Its so hard to see because its almost clear and the way the dipstick is shaped. How much do you guys typically use for an 01?

my 2002 takes 6qts, i believe in 2001 they took 5 or 5.5, not 100% sure. Sounds like you need some better lighting though.

There was some independent testing done in 2001 that observed oil starvation in tight turns on the 2V engine, in response to that Ford increased the recommended fill to 6.0 qts.

Nothing other than the dipstick length and recommended fill was changed, if you look at the owner's manuals (available for download here) you can see the recommneded capacity changed in 2002.

I recommend 6.0 qts in all '99-'03 GTs, my brother has been running 6.0 qts in his '99 for years...
