GT Service Intervals
Hey guys,
I got my 2000 GT about 3 months ago with 42,000 miles on it and I'm starting to slowly creep close to 45,000. I noticed on the Ford Service Bulletin that I downloaded for that year that I need service at a Ford Dealership at 45,000 miles including:
Changing the oil (which I just changed at 43000 miles)
Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums, brake lines & hoses, and parking brake system
Inspect engine cooling system and hoses
Inspect steering linkage, suspension and, if equipped driveshaft and ball joints
Inspect tires for wear and rotate (Just put new tires on at 42500)
Replace cabin air filter, if equipped
Change green engine coolant, if equipped
My basic question is all of this stuff necessary? and should I take it in to a dealer every 5000 miles like the Maintenance Guide says, even for more basic things like oil changes? Also how much do you guys think this mantainance will cost?
and last question I promise How often should I change the oil? Every 3000 miles or should I do 5000 like the Maintenance Guide seems to indicate or longer?
Thanks so much guys, sorry for all the n00b questions- I just wanna make sure I take care of my ride

It wouldn't hurt to run through that list one time, since you got it used. You might want to change fuel filter too. I'm sure 99% of everything is fine, but it's a good idea, because you don't know where the car has been or how it has been driven.
You do not need to take it to a dealer every 5,000 miles. The car has no warranty, and you can do all general maintainence yourself.
As far as oil goes, i would run a good full synthetic brand, and change it every 5k.
One last thing to consider (i did with mine, but it's not absolutely necessary) is compression test. I wanted to see where mine was at before i started modding it.
