The additives are for lubricity, and I have heard also that Chevron does have the best additive.

One more tad bit of info for you all. If you live in a state that requires ethanol to be added to all gas except premium (Missouri) there is no difference between 87 octane and 89 octane. When we go to load ethanol is added to 87 octane it brings it up to 89 octane. This is the truth. Majority of the gas stations have 3 tanks in ground or above ground, and before the mandate of all gas has ethanol they did have 87, 89 & 91. But now 89 octane goes into both tanks, so stop paying the difference for 89 octane and just get 87 I swear to you it's the same. If you are wanting proof of this since there are skeptics just pm me and I will show you a bill of lading.

I have worked at Exxon since 1996. Most fuels are sold under contract to different companies. Unless its a major refiner of fuel gas, It mostly comes from the same pipelines. At least here in Louisiana. You will see scores of diff. companies at the Exxon fuel tank truck loading facilities. The differences in fuels are in the additives that are proprietary blends used by distributors. I usually run whatever store has the best prices. I tend to shy away from older stores that could have older tanks in the ground,I don't want to buy water mixed in from contaminated storage.

if you look up actual studies youll find shell is the best, chevron is good too, mobil is another good one, but texaco, exxon and others like that, that are cheaper priced are cheaper because just that, theyre a cheaper gas. IMO I found between shell and mobil i get better gas mileage through shell. so I always use shell. either way, get one of those top three gas brands and your motor will get what it needs.

Offshore oil production platforms here in La. sell barrels of crude thru pipelines to different refineries thru contracts. Same pipelines different companies. Ever heard of Thunder Horse platform? 20% of our nations energy flows out of that one. Its owned by B.P. Kinda scary to think of what a terrorist attack executed in the Gulf of Mexico on a platform could to to our interstate commerce..
