I could think of the clunk being the bad axle bushings, especially if the passenger side was the worst bushing. The squeak is probably a bushing that needs lubed in the lca

great. i am glad to hear the improvement. the rear end in my car feels worse than the POS 92 toyota pickup i use as a DD. can't wait for control arms. need to weld my cats on first, get a sticker so i am legal. it never ends...

Checked it out today. U-joints are pristine. Thinking it is a pinion bearing. Looks like the rear end will get a rebuild one more time. hopefully the LAST time for a while. Today just filled it with fluid. humming noise was still there so it has to be something other than the gears themselves.

When shaking the driveshaft everything is tight except for the shaft of the pinion, so it is something in the rear end.

Millionth time checked the control arms and they are snug.

Setting up a time now with my mechanic buddy to get it done.

Looks like the pinion nut did back off but not the culprit of the noise.

So replacing the upper control arm diff bushings Thursday. Hope this takes car of it.

let us know how the upper bushings replacement goes. i am in the same boat. new arms with wasted upper bushings.
