Default MAF or something else

I just got my C and L performance intake with a 80mm maf. I installed it and set the maf to around the 1oclock position as per instructed and the idle is all OVER THE PLACE. I tried adjusting it, different fuel grades, cleaned the maf ( usually the K&N fliters are over oiled wich screws them all up), and im about out of idea's other than fuel fliter and an adjustable fuel pump. Think its just running to lean or is it that my tb is dirty? I have friend of mine that works at a chevy dealership as a ace mech. lol i know i said chevy in a ford forum hand me now but hes a good mechanc and really knows his stuff inside and out and thats the only things he can think of so i was wondering if anyone else is havin the same problems with there 2000 mustang. If so let me know im die'n to get this thing back to a stable idle.
It hasnt die'd at a light or anything but it just drops down to about 500rpm then back up to 1k all over but inbetween those numbers. Thanks for the help in advance.

When you get a larger MAF, you have to be sure it is calibrated for whatever size fuel injectors you have. Otherwise it will never work right. Chances are if you haven't screwed around with larger injectors, it is already calibrated for stock use. You do have to disconnect the battery when you do mods like this to zero out the computer so it can more quickly recalibrate the other engine specs to your new mods. If you haven't done this, just disconnect the positive battery cable for around ten minutes and reattach it. Start the car and let it idle a little while and then go on a short cruise at highway speed. It may be a bit rough at first as the computer does its job resetting all the fuel/air, etc. specs.

Well when i pruchased them from CandL i did let them know that i wasnt going to be changing my injector size as of yet and he asssured me that 19lbs. stock injectors were more then enough. Also with a diablo tuner i would be able to bump it up a bit to run a little richer. Well i havent pruchased the programmer yet but i just figured that this wasnt normal. When i installed it i had the car battery out of the car so it should be calibrated i think.
Is it true that it can take up to XX starts or milies driven for it adjust itself correctly. Someone told me that it can get up to like 30starts and 100 milies just to adjust itself..... Since my stang isnt my priority vehicle this might take a bit or i might just need a road trip in it. But thank for your feedback ill try disconnecting the battery again see if that works.

The C&L MAF did make mine run lean but did not affect the idle. You will need a tuner (a worthwhile investment anyway) to correct it.

w/ the diablo you can only adjust the fuel at WOT, it wont do anything for fuel at idle.

You won't fix the idle with the predator and the lean condition caused by the C&L MAF will be even worse on a diablo tune. You need to get the car on a dyno to get it dialed in before something breaks.

I can tell you now that you will need a custom tune from a diablo dealer to get the A/F ratio correct. You will not be able to get it to a safe level with the diablo tune, but you may get it OK with just modifying the stock tune abilities with the diablo.

Your idle issues may also be caused by the IAC.

Did you disconnect the battery when you installed the MAF? If so have you driven the car atleast 100miles? The car needs to learn the new mods and takes some time.
