Default Rear end noise diagnosis

All, hoping to get suggestions on what to look for. Getting a noise from rear end that sounds similar to rotors rubbing. But I only notice the noise when I step on the gas. When I release the gas, I don't hear the noise anymore. I've replaced the rotors/pads about 3-4 months ago. Just redid springs/shocks over the weekend but the noise was previous to that. I can't distinguish if it is coming from one side or the other.

My vehicle is a 99 GT w/ 140K miles. I can think of a couple of things to check including:
1. rotors... possibly go get them turned. new pads
2. drive shaft... check u-joints
3. rear diff oil... need to change this at 150K, might do it now to see any difference
4. rear wheel bearings... have no idea what to look for here.
5. tranny??? ugggh. I do need a flush.

Any suggestions on what/where to start looking I would appreciate it.

TIA

My car was making a noise like that for a week or two last month - turns out the guy who I bought it from last month had run it on low diff fluid (it had been leaking) and shot the whole rear diff, so I had to replace the gears and bearings

Reminds me of a rear with a bad pinion angle setup. Does the car have aftermarket control arms? If not, how do the bushings look on the factory control arms?. Could be the pinion bearings worn out. Could you get a sound clip

The car is stock as it pertains to the control arms. I will check the bushings tonight when I get home. Went out at lunch w/ another guy to sit in the car and listen. He says he can hear the noise even when I let off the gas... I still can't. In addition, he said he couldn't hear anything from outside the car as I drove by, so I'm just hearing it in the car. Now I'm leaning towards wheel bearing but I have no freaking clue.

Gonna do the simple by doing a diff gear oil change this weekend, check/tighten the u-joint/driveshaft bolts and I'll go from there. I'll check the gears for wear. Not sure how to check the pinion bearings/seals. I don't see any leakage (I know about leakage... old wrangler I had leaked something bad).

Thanks for the help. Keep posting if someone has an idea.

i cant remember if there are dust shields on the back, im sure there are, but check to make sure those are not rubbing on the rotors as well. Also check to see if the exhaust may be hanging a little low and causing the mufflers to drag on the driveshaft. other than that, seems like your getting all the good stuff from these other guys, g/l
